If you're running a Reading Program in September, there are a few themes for your program-

1. Fall Into Reading- post each book read on a cut-out paper leaf
2. Back to Reading- using back-to-school theme, yellow school buses
3. Reading Pennant Race- as the baseball pennant race gets into high gear,         theme your reading contest around a "Pennant Race". Have students vote for their favorite books read, leading to a "World Series of Reading" in October
4. Kick-Off the Reading Year- Football season starts in September- divide the month into quarters, have a half-time celebration- use your imagination!

October is certainly a fertile month for themes. Here's a few to get you thinking:

1. World Series of Reading- see above
2.  Discover Books!- Use Columbus discovery theme
3.  Mystery Reader Month- using Halloween theme, have guest mystery readers (parents, principal, etc) read to students; have students guess who the reader is
4.  Books Cast a Spell on You!- use Halloween witches, black cats, pumpkins
